Among the dirt and overgrown weeds,

pink tinted blossoms cover

the remains of the old hedge,

where residents cared for and trimmed

Their gardens over the past century.

Their houses, now lying empty,

wait for the developers

and their long toothed cranes,

to crush to pulp all signs

of a way of life lived

on Grand Canal street.
