Jack Cannon
Colourful Bar

Jack Cannon says of himself:

"I'm 24 years old, and have been writing poetry for around two years. I tend to draw from personal experience, not always directly from my life, but perhaps, from odd little thoughts/ideas I may have throughout the day. What, at first glance, can appear quite absurd, often has much truth to it, and is usually much less strange than we first assume.
My influences range from Irvine Welsh to Ernest Hemmingway, and I guess I fall someway in-between - wherever that might be."

(The Poet's Biography in 2002)

"The Buildings I've Built"

Meaning

Incomprehensible studies

of afternoons and evenings

Twelve seconds from a childhood

vacation in the bottom

of an empty coffee cup

Tomorrow, I'll rebuild

my typewriter with

the welfare cheque

Sit on stone walls

dragged from vast melancholies

of orderly waiting rooms

Travel on empty buses

re-capturing myself

I'll throw my body

from the buildings I've built

and chat with Fathers whilst

their children are

being born.
