Do I despair

That after all these years

I have failed to gift you a single poem

From the scattered bouquet

Of my incipient Muse?

Ah, perhaps

I am no poet;

- An errant son

Dabbling in errant rhymes

And forever dreaming of gnomes and unicorns -

But today,

I hope to win, mother

And so I strive to decorate you

With a bunch of lilacs

Wreathed in tearful smiles that spring

From the nethermost reaches of an impatient heart!
